Stuart Wood AM KC
Stuart Wood AM KC is one of His Majesty’s counsel and is a leading Australian advocate. He has appeared numerous times in the High Court of Australia in cases covering a range of fields, such as: abuse of process; academic freedom; constitutional law; contempt; contract; employment law; judicial immunity; procedure; statutory construction; strike law; superannuation law and tort.
Mr Wood has appeared hundreds of times in the Federal Court and the State Supreme Courts including dozens of appeals and, in his 30 year career at the Bar, has appeared in over a thousand cases in courts and tribunals in every capital city and across the length and breadth of the land: from the Tasmanian Court of Petty Sessions in Hobart to the local court in Darwin, and from the Magistrate’s Court in Broome to a Commission in Rockhampton, and everywhere in between: including the dead centre in Alice Springs, in the old Industrial Relations Court of Australia.
Mr Wood took silk in 2011, was appointed King’s Counsel in 2014, is a member of both the Queensland and Victorian Bars and has chambers in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. He has many business and outside interests: he was a board member of the National Portrait Gallery and is currently the Secretary of the Samuel Griffith Society, and has been for a decade. He was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in 2019 “for significant service to the legal profession, particularly in the area of industrial relations”.
