Cedric Hampson Chambers
Barristers at Law
Cedric Hampson Chambers is a respected and established set of barristers based in Brisbane, comprising 12 members who practise across a broad spectrum of legal disciplines. Founded in 1986 by the late Cedric Hampson AO, RFD, QC—one of Queensland’s most distinguished barristers—the chambers continue his legacy of excellence, independence and fearless advocacy.
Our members bring expertise across a wide range of jurisdictions, with particular strengths in insurance, commercial, insolvency, construction, property, succession and criminal law. Several members are also accredited mediators under the National Mediation Accreditation System, regularly assisting parties to resolve disputes outside of court.
With the capacity to appear in all Australian courts and tribunals, our barristers are known for their strategic, practical and responsive advice, built on deep experience in litigation. The diversity of seniority within chambers allows for collaborative briefing of senior and junior counsel, fostering shared knowledge and delivering value to clients.
Many of our members have been recognised in Doyle’s Guide for their professional standing and capability. For over three decades, Cedric Hampson Chambers has upheld a strong reputation for legal excellence and principled representation.

Cedric Hampson AO, RFD, QC
Cedric Hampson AO, RFD, QC (1933–2014) was a distinguished Queensland barrister and the founding partner of Cedric Hampson Chambers (established 1986).
He was widely regarded as one of the state’s leading advocates, serving two terms as President of the Queensland Bar Association (1978–81, 1995–96) and earning a reputation for rapid, incisive courtroom advocacy – the ABC noted he often argued cases “using his wit in front of the jury”.
Over five decades at the Bar, he built a vast practice across criminal, commercial and other fields, appearing in courts from the Magistrates Court to the Privy Council, and he handled many high-profile matters (from defending Pauline Hanson’s bail application to acting for the Queensland Police during the Fitzgerald Inquiry).
In later years, Hampson specialised in royal commissions and public inquiries (notably the Carruthers and Connolly-Ryan commissions) and helped shape the profession’s institutions (for example, chairing Barristers Chambers Ltd and supporting Brisbane’s Inns of Court).
His service to the law was recognised with appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1984, and he is remembered as a mentor and pillar of Queensland’s legal community.
